Bitter Souls, directed by Tom Ryan, written by Steve Gray and Ed McKeever. Starring Avaryana Rose and Michael Hargrove. Brings us a tale of revenge and love tied to a Voodoo priest named Immanuel (Michael Hargrove). Kendall, a young teenage girl, will become a victim of local bullies. Setting in motion a fury of vengeance fueled by voodoo and the love of her boyfriend Lucien. He is hellbent on finding her when he gets unexpected help from Mahlet, a voodoo priestess, and Father O'Reilly. Lucien will travel to hell to find his love, and what he brings back is no longer the sweet girl he knows. Kendall is back and out for blood on those who hurt her. A deeper story is about to unfold, and everyone involved is tied to each other's fates.
Bitter Souls checks off all the boxes, making a great revenge film fueled by the dark arts of voodoo. A young woman killed by the hand of the local wannabe thug and his band of bullies. The will of Lucien to step into hell and bring her back at any cost. Not knowing he is not bringing back the girl he knew. Avaryana kills in the role of Kendall, she brings a perfect balance of sugar and fury. Her girl-next-door vibe is shattered when she returns as a brutal voodoo-fueled killer. Avaryana delivers comic relief while on her voodoo-fueled rampage. The story is so well done, and when the web that entangled everyone's fate is revealed, it binds everything. Immanuel plays a huge part in the story from the shadows with Lucien.
Bitter Souls hit the mark for me. I'm always a fan of revenge films, and this one did not disappoint. The story was well written, it had me hooked, it did not drag the pace, of the story was on point. The cast was spot on in casting Avaryana, who hits all her marks in the role. Michael Hargrove and Michael McKeever also nailed their roles, bringing a great balance to the film. The locations and cinematography are amazing. I highly recommend seeing this one. I give Bitter Souls an 8 out of 10, a voodoo revenge-fueled ride full of some great kills, and a killer story not to be missed. Bitter Souls hits Amazon Prime Video on May 15th.
